A Busy, Warm, Stormy Few Days

Lots going on this past weekend. We'll start with the obvious - major storms! What a lot of rain - close to six inches Saturday night! We sat on the porch and watched the storms roll in. It was a pretty cool sight. Grant was mesmerized by the lightning and thunder. He said over and over - "thunder and lightning - it's not scary!" It was pretty cute, but by about the 50th time Eric and I had enough.
Because it finally warmed up, we had the chance to get the kiddie pool out for Grant to play in over the weekend. I made the mistake of deciding not to put a swim diaper on him - figuring I'd save my swim diapers for the beach and just stick a regular diaper on him in the back yard (is that Dutch for you, or what?). I knew that the diaper would expand quite a bit from absorbing all the water, but I figured that would be about it. However, after about 10-15 times of Grant jumping up in the air and landing on his butt in the pool, I noticed his diaper had "exploded." The core of the diaper was just spilling out all over - in the pool, his swim trunks, on the lawn. It was disgusting. I stripped him naked, emptied the pool, picked up all the "pieces," and learned my lesson to NEVER use a regular diaper on an active almost two year old in a pool ever again. Below are a few pictures of our afternoon. As you can see, G-man has some difficulty keeping his diaper and swim trunks on his rear with all the water in them (pre-explosion)!Sunday noon we had a potluck at the park with our care group from church. Lots of good eats! Grant loves hanging out with his buddies from church - Trent and Bennett. We brought some bread along and they had the chance to feed the ducks. It was so cute watching them all. Bennett ate more of the bread than he fed the ducks (good thing I brought along pretty fresh bread!). Grant would throw a piece, but if it wasn't far enough for his liking, he would go and pick it up and try to throw it again. The only problem with this was the fact that many times he'd throw it into the water on the first try and then chase after it, get all wet, and try to throw it again. Obviously, he has no fear of water. Bless Trent's heart - one time as Grant was walking to pick up a piece of unattended bread, Trent tried to "save" him from the perils of the water by running over to him and "protecting" him by putting his arms in front and behind him. Thanks for looking out for him Trent!

Sunday night we had the chance to go to our friends' Nate and Heather's church for baptism of their second son Cole. It was a nice chance for Grant to see all of his buddies again - Isaac, Morgan, Hannah, and Reese. After church cake and cookies were served. If you know anything about Grant, he LOVES (and that is even underestimating it) to eat, and cookies are right at the top of the list with ice cream and pizza (No, we are not terrible parents and do not always feed our kid junk - he does like healthy foods too! Heck, he likes food in general!). Every Sunday morning after church cookies are served, and somehow Grant manages to pour on the charm and con the cookie people into giving him at least 5 cookies. So...when he saw cookies Sunday night, he was first in line! He was working on his third cookie and I looked over and I saw him walking over to me with the third cookie in his left hand, another one in his right hand, and a fifth underneath his arm. That little stinker!! He truly is the cookie monster!
Later in the week, weather permitting, we look forwarding to heading to the beach with the same group of friends we saw at church Sunday night, so hopefully I will have some pictures of that to post in a few days!

Love the diaper story!!! I have heard that happens. They do make diaper things that are cheaper than the swimmer diapers. I found Morgan's at Target.

oh Kim. I'm sure Grant will really appreciate that little behind picture someday! Ha! You're a great storyteller, and thanks for the regular-diaper-usage warning : )
