"I Run For..."

...peer pressure.
The title of this blog post was the theme of this year's 5/3 Riverbank Run. A few months back my friends decided (notice it doesn't say "friends and I") that we were going to run the 10K. This decision came a few weeks after I had just birthed my second child and the thought that ran through my head when the proposition was presented to me was "not a chance in you know where." My loins were speaking pretty loudly - NO WAY! (sorry if that was too much information for any of you!). Plus, I'd never even run a road race before, let alone a mile in the previous year. Well, here we are, the night after the race and exactly five months after Brooke was born, and I am proud to say that I did it! Thank you friends for forcing me to train for it. I submitted to the peer pressure, but it was worth it. I had set two goals for myself: 1) no walking, and 2) finish in around an hour. I am happy to report that I accomplished both. The time was nothing to write home about (59:38), but it was a good experience (despite the heavy rain!). I will publicly proclaim, however, that if my friends decide to run the 25K next year, I will NOT give in to that pressure. I give all the credit in the world to those who run it, though! You are much more dedicated (or crazy!) than me!

We took advantage of some of the Tulip Time festivities this past week as well. We went to Wednesday's parade with my friend Kristi and her kids, Morgan and Grady. Grant and Morgan had a great time watching (but Grant was rather bummed that there weren't any fire trucks to bring up the rear!).

We also went downtown Wednesday night for junk food and to hang out with our Sunday school group from church. These were the best pics I could get of the two kiddos in front of the tulips. I'm too cheap to buy Dutch costumes so my kids weren't sporting them at all, but there were many other children who were and they all looked so darn cute!

Happy Mothers Day to all of you moms out there! Eric and I are so blessed to have two of the best moms in the world! We love you very much!

Congrats on the completion of the race! It's definitely something to say this year with the terribly soggy conditions:)

You are amazing for running that race...I saw all of your names in the paper and was very disappointed that I gave up and never even sign-up to run...maybe next year!
